Keane still best man to reward Ramos

Manchester City 2
Tottenham 1

If Tottenham are to overcome Chelsea on Wednesday night it might be a good idea for Juande Ramos to leave Robbie Keane on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.

The manager should have rejected his impulse and let his Irish captain continue to tirelessly examine Manchester City's vulnerable back four yesterday.

If he had, Spurs could be going into the midweek meeting at White Hart Lane having earned at least a point from their trip to the North West.

Quite why he decided it should be his captain, who put Spurs ahead with an excellently taken 21st goal of the season, who gave way and not the frustrating Dimitar Berbatov was perplexing to say the least. Keane was understandably angry afterwards - he maybe should have kept his temper in check - but at least his reaction showed that he cared.

Pascal Chimbonda's excellent break and pass to Keane deservedly set up the 32nd-minute opening goal. But City were unlikely to remain so lacklustre and when they rallied after the break, Spurs' resistance quickly, and alarmingly, disappeared.

Ramos blamed naivety and two dodgy offside decisions but the fact that goals from Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha came from headers in the six-yard box - Ireland turning home from Elano's nod down - should set alarm bells ringing.

"We were so much in control of the game and maybe our lads thought the game was won before it was really over," said Ramos. He will endure a frustrating two months until the end of the season if he cannot maintain his side's hunger.
