WOMAN IN THE NEWS

Joy Johnson

City Hall's communications chief has gone on annual leave until the mayoral election. But no palm treefringed beaches for her. Instead, she'll be spending her time at Labour HQ in Victoria Street, working on Ken Livingstone's re-election campaign. Chief-of-staff Simon Fletcher and senior economics adviser John Ross are helping out in their own time, but expect them to follow suit.

CAMPAIGN CAPERS

It's the Nixon question - would you buy a used car from this man? Apparently not, if it's Ken Livingstone. The Mayor has topped a poll to find the candidate from whom Londoners would least like to buy a second-hand motor. Livingstone at 42 per cent was the clear winner, ahead of Boris Johnson at 24 per cent and Brian Paddick at five per cent. Si‚n Berry, the Green candidate, scored two per cent, overlooking the fact that she wouldn't have a car to sell in the first place. "This seems a good test for any politician," says Jim Buckmaster, boss of Craigslist, who commissioned the YouGov poll.
