MAN IN THE NEWS

Nick Clegg

THE Liberal Democrat leader likes demos but today he was being harangued at his own party HQ over his mayoral candidate's alleged lack of environmental credibility.

Green Assembly Members Jenny Jones and Darren Johnson appeared at Cowley Street with placards saying "Brian Paddick: Environmental Hazard". The Greens claim Mr Paddick's opposition to the £25 C-charge, the Low Emission Zone and his plan to hand Tube trains to private firms are out of step with Lib-Dem voters. They say his attempt to woo Tories means he is a "Conservative with a Yellow Rosette". Mr Clegg is unlikely to be impressed - he strongly backs his candidate and has made no secret of his wish to ditch the Libs' image as a knityourown yoghurt party.
