WOMAN IN THE NEWS

Rose Gentle

THE anti-war activist, whose son Gordon was killed in Iraq in 2004, has backed Left List candidate Lindsey German's campaign. Mrs Gentle has been a tireless campaigner for bringing the troops home and in calling for a public inquiry into the war. Ms German, who has also been endorsed by former Guantanamo detainee Moazzam Begg, was convener of the Stop the War Coalition.

CAMPAIGN CAPERS

KEN LIVINGSTONE's bid to capture the youth vote may not be the most effective. The Mayor (aged 63) has signed up a series of celebrities to back his cause, but with an average age of 49.5, surely this lot, who include Prunella Scales and Dame Vivienne Westwood, are not so much hip as hip replacement?
