WOMAN IN THE NEWS

Sian Berry

THE Federation of Small Businesses has named the Green Party candidate as most sympathetic to its concerns.

She was followed by Boris Johnson and Brian Paddick, with Ken Livingstone trailing behind. In a letter to its members the federation said the Mayor was "more engaged with large business and multinationals," and predicted members would be "disappointed" with Mr Johnson and Mr Paddick.

It highlighted Ms Berry's policies, including making 50 per cent of trading space in new large developments available to small businesses at affordable rents

She said: "Greens have been working to promote small business for years, and I'm delighted the federation has confirmed that.

"We need a more resilient economy to see us through a recession, and my policies to let small business in all sectors flourish will help to build that."

CAMPAIGN CAPERS

• MUCH discussion at last night's recording of the ITV London debate about the role of ITV director of public affairs Nigel Warner. The Tories thought they smelled a rat when they saw Mr Warner, a former special adviser to Tessa Jowell, chatting away to Ken Livingstone before the hustings on the South Bank. Could he be giving the Labour candidate insider info, they wondered. Mr Warner insisted at the aftershow party that he chatted to all the mayoral candidates beforehand and showed no favouritism at all.
