City Hall dries out just in time

The winner of the mayoral vote and other local elections will be announced at City Hall in spite of flooding which necessitated a hunt for an alternative venue.

Seven million litres of water escaped from a burst main in Tooley Street on Friday, flooding the building's basement and forcing engineers to shut electricity sub-stations.

Today EDF Energy said it was safe to turn the power back on so City Hall can be used on Friday afternoon.

Thames Water apologised for the flooding.
