MAN IN THE NEWS

Peregrine Worsthorne

THE High Tory and former Sunday Telegraph editor may seem an odd enemy for Boris. But on The Last Post website today he writes: "Never before having had the opportunity to observe Boris trying to conduct himself seriously and responsibly ... his various attempts to do so last week were deeply disappointing. He just can't do it. The harder he tried, the more insincere, incoherent, evasive and even puerile he looked and sounded. Take away the gags and jokes and nothing much is left." Ouch.

CAMPAIGN CAPERS

• GREEN candidate Sian Berry today took to the streets with a giant cardboard peach to boost her party's numbers on the Assembly. The fruit bears the message: "Vote GREEN on the PEACH paper" - the voting form for the 11 London-wide Assembly members. Ms Berry admits her chances of being Mayor are slim but says she's likely to get a seat on the Assembly.
