Mayor

The four deputy mayors

Evening Standard
19 Aug 2008

Mr Johnson now has four deputy mayors - although his predecessor Ken Livingstone only ever had one.

His legally-appointed deputy mayor is Richard Barnes, 61. He is leader of the Conservative group of assembly members and has served on the assembly since 2000. He stands in for the Mayor at City Hall meetings in his absence, earning £92,594.

Deputy Mayor for policing is Kit Malthouse who also is currently deputy chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority. A 42-year-old qualified chartered accountant and former deputy leader of Westminster Council he is also cabinet member for finance. Salary: £53, 543.

Ian Clement, the Deputy Mayor for Government Relations was leader of Bexley Council to take up the role. He had been given the authority to make planning decisions but is now tasked with working with all local authorities. Salary: £124,365.

Sir Simon Milton, 47, is Deputy Mayor for policy and planning. He was the leader of Westminster Council but initially refused to step down as a councillor and so remained as an advisor. He has now quit to be a full-time City Hall worker and is expected to earn around £120,000.

What is your definition of a crony? It seems Boris has a definite attraction to the seedy Tory Councillors of Westminster who let Dame Shirley Porter get out of repaying the money owed to Westminster ratepayers.
