Boris picks TfL policy chief as eco-adviser

Boris Johnson has appointed an environmental adviser four months after becoming Mayor.

Isabel Dedring, head of policy at Transport for London, will be seconded into the role.

Ms Dedring wrote the Climate Change Action Plan for the former mayor Ken Livingstone.

She also took the lead on climate change at TfL, where plans included converting London's bus fleet so all 8,000 vehicles would run on hybrid motors by 2012.

She will now help Mr Johnson implement plans including a 60 per cent reduction in carbon emissions by 2025, setting up 10 hi-tech "low-carbon zones" by 2012 and planting 10,000 trees.

The Mayor said she had "knowledge, experience and drive". Ms Dedring studied law at Harvard and has worked at McKinsey and Ernst & Young. She has dual US and German nationality.

She said: "I am raring to get started. Taking robust steps to tackle climate change presents huge opportunities for London.

"We can make our environment more pleasant, save money on energy bills, create new jobs whilst also seeing that London plays its part in helping to save the planet."

Darren Johnson, Green Party leader on the London Assembly, said: "It is a relief someone will be providing direction but four months have been wasted."
