Tens of thousands of people took part in the Thames Festival - including some who pelted each other with dried grass in a hayfight.

It was part of the finale to the two-day celebration on both banks of the river.

A series of events was held from the London Eye to Tower Bridge, with the ending marked by fireworks last night.

Mayor Boris Johnson appeared in a carnival procession along the Victoria Embankment.

Other events included an outdoor ballroom at Jubilee Gardens and Eastern European dancing outside the Southbank centre. And hundreds sat down for Feast on the Bridge, which saw Southwark bridge closed to traffic for a "harvest meal" of seasonal produce. Mr Johnson said: "The Thames Festival is a magical celebration of London and its river."

Clare Patey, curator of Feast on the Bridge, said it aimed to "re-imagine a traditional harvest celebration in the heart of the city".
