Flagpoles vault up the Mall

Katharine Barney, Evening Standard

London 2012 flags were today being erected in The Mall in preparation for the Olympic Games handover party on Sunday.

The flags will be interspersed with Union flags and will line the road leading up to Trafalgar Square. About 40,000 people are expected to watch Boris Johnson on a giant screen as he receives the Olympic torch in Beijing to mark London becoming the host city.

Trafalgar Square will also host a concert with performances from acts including Il Divo, McFly and Will Young.
