Brolly good show: Boris kicks off Stratford City countdown

Katharine Barney, Evening Standard
2 Sep 2008

Boris Johnson started the countdown to a major part of a 2012 development today by unveiling a digital clock.

The clock showed 912 days and nine hours until the opening of Westfield Stratford City, the shopping centre and gateway to the Olympic Park.

Sheltering from the pouring rain under an umbrella, the Mayor, right, said: "Whatever impression people get from these pictures it is not raining in London for 94 per cent of the time... [it's] exactly the same as Paris or Prague or other comparable cities."
