Make it a treble: Gael Clichy says players will look forward to the series of matches

Clichy's good omen for Liverpool saga

Marco Giacomelli, Evening Standard

Gael Clichy is relishing Arsenal's triple header against Liverpool next month.

The Gunners face the Reds in the Champions League on 2 and 8 April, with a Premier League game against them in between and Clichy believes that could be a good omen.

During January last year, Arsenal recorded an FA Cup and Carling Cup double in Liverpool as they won both ties in the space of just four days.

The full-back feels his team will take lining up against such familiar opposition in their stride.

"I don't think that affects the players at all," he said. "We did it last season when we played cup ties together. In fact, it's quite good fun because it doesn't happen much. We will look forward to it and hopefully we'll win."

Inter Milan, meanwhile, have denied reports claiming they made an illegal approach for Alexander Hleb ahead of Arsenal's European tie with AC Milan.

Clichy might be confident, but deep down I'm sure he's probably concerned: Liverpool under Benitez are frighteningly good at the two-legged knock-out tie. They have,in recent years accounted for Barcelona, Juventus, Chelsea (twice) and, most recently, internationalize. I have a feeling Arsenal might be added to that list.
