Shaun Udal: Indian gravy train is a real threat

02.04.08

Former Hampshire and England spinner Shaun Udal fears that big-money Twenty20 cricket in India could wreck the English game.

Udal, who is about to start his 20th season on the county circuit after joining Middlesex, said: "I think it is the biggest single threat to English cricket for a very long time. I can see people retiring from England early and taking up options for mega-deals in India. The money being thrown around is frightening."

So far, the only English player signed up to the Indian Premier League, which starts this month, is Hampshire's Dimitri Mascarenhas.
