Lewis Hamilton added his voice to the growing condemnation of FIA president Max Mosley today by insisting it was for people in high office to set a good example.

Before steering his McLaren into the opening practice session for the Bahrain Grand Prix, Hamilton spoke out as Mosley remained under pressure to resign following lurid allegations about his sex life.

The 23-year-old British driver aligned himself with four major manufacturers involved in Formula One - Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Toyota and BMW - who have questioned whether Mosley's 15-year rule as one of sport's most powerful administrators can go on.

Honda said: "It is necessary that senior figures in sport and business maintain the highest standards of conduct in order to fulfil their duties with integrity and respect."

Hamilton, who leads the world title chase by three points, said: "I totally agree with what they're saying. As young people, we are always looking up to others to show us the way and set a good example."

Williams driver Nico Rosberg said: "If you're a racing driver or something, you have to try to set a good example. People are watching you and looking up to things you do."
