Wayne Rooney is out until the final

Wayne Rooney is set to miss the climax to the title race but should be back for the Champions League Final.

A hip injury forced the Manchester United striker to sit out Tuesday's semi-final win over Barcelona.

Rooney is definitely out of Saturday's Premier League clash at home to West Ham and is almost certain to be sidelined for the final domestic clash at Wigan on 11 May. However, United hope the England forward will return for the European final with Chelsea on 21 May.

Rooney's team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo believes the club can triumph in Moscow.

"We're in this competition to win it, as much as the league," he said. "We took our chance and now we're in the final of the Champions League. Nothing could be better." Speculation has been rife about Ronaldo's future with a host of clubs queueing up to try and entice the young star away from Manchester.

Real Madrid have repeatedly expressed their desire to sign the 23-year-old to Spain but Ronaldo is happy to stay put.

"It is hard to live in Manchester," he said. "But it is a great club, I am very happy here. I want to play here for many more seasons and get even better."
