Carlos Tevez revealed today he is ready to sign a permanent deal with Manchester United, as Cristiano Ronaldo kept the club guessing over whether he will be there next season.

Tevez has enjoyed a superb debut campaign at Old Trafford after signing on a two-year loan from West Ham. United officials now hope to sort out Tevez's ownership situation with Kia Joorabchian and formalise the contract.

The 24-year-old Argentina striker hopes that can be done as soon as possible. "I would certainly love to extend my contract," he said. "I would go and sign right now if the opportunity was there.

"I am not one to be making comparisons between clubs but Manchester United are right up there with anyone in the world. From day one, everyone has treated me well and made me feel right at home. The fans at Manchester United even shout 'Argentina'. That is why I am so happy here."

Tevez's statement of intent came on the same day that Ronaldo hinted he may leave Manchester United after next week's Champions League Final.

Chelsea supporters will be delighted to hear that the double footballer of the year has thrown United's plans for Moscow into chaos after suggesting his future may lie away from Old Trafford.

Real Madrid have openly courted the 23-year-old and said again yesterday that they are capable of signing him this summer.

The Portuguese winger revealed he was flattered to hear that. Ronaldo said: "It is always important to know that other teams like you because it gives you motivation when they say your name all the time.

"But I say a thousand times that I am very happy at the club, I am very happy in Manchester. I want to stay here, I say this is my role. But, my future, I don't know, only God knows.

"It is my dream to play in Spain, sometimes dreams do not come true but I still dream."

Meanwhile, Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho, who has to mark his fellow countryman in Moscow, boasted today that "it will be easy" to stop Ronaldo in the Champions League Final.

"Ronaldo has been fantastic for the Premier League," he said.

"We have to try and not give him too much space to play. It is difficult to stop him but if you focus and work with your team-mates, it will be easy. He's my mate. I know him well.

"Everyone knows how important he is to United and we have to be strong to stop him."
