Simon Shaw wants fans to welcome star signing Serge Betsen

Evening Standard   22 May 2008

Simon Shaw hopes London Wasps fans won't still bear a grudge against new signing Serge Betsen for the trip that broke former centre Stuart Abbott's leg in 2005.

Betsen one the all-time great France flankers, was today confirmed as Lawrence Dallaglio's replacement for next season.

The 34-year-old escaped punishment for his foul on Abbott while playing in a Heineken Cup game for Biarritz but Wasps lock Shaw said: "The players don't have a problem. We wouldn't have signed him if that had been the case."

Wasps have also signed New Zealand scrum-half Mark Robinson from Northampton.

Wasps centre Riki Flutey was last night named players' player of the year and Danny Cipriani, back home after having ankle surgery, voted young player of the year.
