Jenas out of England's friendlies

23.05.08

Jermaine Jenas will miss next week's two friendly internationals because of an ankle injury.

The Tottenham midfielder turned up for training at London Colney today but was sent home after being examined by England's medical staff.

Newcastle striker Michael Owen is also expected to miss the games against the United States at Wembley on Wednesday and away to Trinidad the following Sunday because of a virus.

But there are several strikers waiting to fill Owen's place. Theo Walcott, Dean Ashton, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Jermain Defoe are all in the squad as well as regulars Wayne Rooney and Peter Crouch.

Nine Chelsea and Manchester United players involved in the Champions League Final will report for duty tomorrow, and David Beckham on Sunday after his latest match for Los Angeles Galaxy.
