Bacary Sagna: six-year deal at the Emirates

Sagna signs six-year deal with Arsenal

Evening Standard   4 Jun 2008

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has signed a new six-year contract after just one season at the club.

The 25-year-old France international has been rewarded after impressing since his £7.5million move from Auxerre last July.

Sagna, who was named in the PFA Team of the Year, said: "I love Arsenal, they are a great club. The manager is also very good and next season we will be fighting for all the trophies."

Germany No1 Jens Lehmann, who was out of contract at Arsenal, will return to the Bundesliga next season after agreeing a one-year deal with VfB Stuttgart.

The 38-year-old goalkeeper, who spent five years at Arsenal, was second choice for most of last season after losing his place to Spaniard Manuel Almunia.

Meanwhile, Tony Adams has agreed a new one-year deal to stay with FA Cup winners Portsmouth as assistant manager.

Although the former Arsenal defender wants another crack at management, having had an ill-fated spell at Wycombe in 2004, he wants to help Portsmouth in their first UEFA Cup campaign.
