First class Ivanovic has stamp of approval

The Serbian postal service will need to recall their special stamp featuring French Open champion Ana Ivanovic, having made her cheaper than Novak Djokovic on the basis he won the Australian Open in January.

Djokovic's stamp is priced at 46 dinars, Ivanovic's at 40 and Jelena Jankovic's at 30 and were issued before the French Open started.

However, with the Serbian having beaten Dinara Safina 6-4, 6-3 to win the title, while also attaining the world No1 ranking, her currency at home and abroad is at an all-time high.

Ivanovic has flown back to Belgrade to see her extended family and will be given a civic reception in the town centre.

Paris has elevated Ivanovic above Maria Sharapova, now world No2 and Jankovic to give women's tennis their most glamourous trio at the top of the rankings.

Ivanovic said: "It was an amazing achievement for Novak to win the first Grand Slam tournament for Serbia at the beginning of the year. Going into the final I thought of it, and I said to myself, 'Come on, he could do it, so I can do it, too.' It was something that motivated me and, I hope, many young kids get inspired by us.

"This title, it is very important to me, because it was my dream for a long time. Reaching the No1 position before I played this match was a great award."
