Jimenez on course for Ryder Cup

19 Jun 2008

Miguel Angel Jiminez is confident he can secure his Ryder Cup spot at this week's BMW International in Munich.

The 44-year-old Spaniard leads the Order of Merit, is second to Lee Westwood in the Ryder Cup race and on Sunday he was joint sixth in the US Open.

Jimenez, from Malaga, admits that he is starting to feel tired and will be in need of a rest soon but not before he has secured his place in Nick Faldo's team.

"I want to keep my game on the same level and be a factor in the tournament," said Jimenez.

"All the majors take a lot out of you, especially when you are in contention. It's difficult to explain - you need to be in somebody's skin to get the feeling.

"I think I will be on the team now and I don't want to go with too many tournaments on my back, so I'm going to have my rest, too."

A host of big names who are struggling to secure an automatic Ryder Cup spot, like Colin Montgomerie, Paul Casey, Graeme McDowell, Henrik Stenson and Niclas Fasth, are also playing in Germany this week.
