World No659 Chris Eaton is the lowest-ranked player in the Wimbledon men's singles draw but his powerful serve threatens to cause Serbia's Boris Pashanski serious problems in their first-round clash later today.

Eaton, the 20-year-old from East Horsley, Surrey, battled his way through the Wimbledon qualifying to earn the right to appear in his home Grand Slam and prove that Britain has tennis players with the ability to enter the biggest tournament without the need of a wild card.

With British players under pressure to stand on their own two feet without constant support and help from the Lawn Tennis Association, Eaton has every right to feel proud of his achievement.

However, he accepts his world ranking needs to be drastically improved if he is to make a success in the sport. Eaton, who follows in the footsteps of fellow former Reed's School pupils Tim Henman and Jamie Delgado by playing at Wimbledon, said: "I believe I can get into the top 100 and that is my goal. By the end of this year I hope to be inside the 250s.

"When I take on better players my own standard of play rises and I know I have the power to cause people problems.

"I have always known I have the ability to play big tennis. It's about getting the mental and physical balance right and this tournament - if I can get through a couple of rounds - will really boost my ranking."

Eaton produced 31 aces in his final qualifying match for Wimbledon and will need a repeat of that form to subdue Pashanski.

Meanwhile, Jamie Murray has confirmed he will team up with South African Liezel Huber in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon.

Murray, 22, lifted the trophy with Jelena Jankovic in 2007 but the Serb has opted not to defend their title in order to focus on the singles.

"Liezel's the best in the world at what she does and we played the last three Grand Slams together," said Murray.

On Saturday, Murray and Jeff Coetzee lost the Nottingham Open final 6-2, 7-6 to Bruno Soares and Kevin Ullyett.

The match was moved indoors because of rain and Murray admitted that had been a factor in their defeat.

"The courts were quick and we struggled on our returns," he said.
