Wenger tips Ballack to inspire Germany to glory

Arsene Wenger believes Michael Ballack is the best player at Euro 2008 and will cap his exceptional tournament by lifting the trophy for Germany.

The Arsenal boss says the Chelsea midfielder has been the most consistent individual force in the competition, even ahead of Russia's Andrei Arshavin, who has surprised him by beginning to "dominate" the event.

Asked who he thinks will win UEFA's player of the tournament award, Wenger felt Ballack deserved it ahead of Arshavin and Spain's David Villa.

"I think you would give it to Ballack," said Wenger. "He has reached a new dimension in his game, also as a leader, and he has had a great tournament.

"He's efficient with the final ball, he can score goals, he's good in the air and he makes the team play well. For me, from the first day of the tournament until today, he's the most consistent player."

Wenger expects Ballack to be celebrating after Sunday's final. "Russia are the team with the best movement," he said. "Still I think Spain will beat them and maybe in the final, Germany will have a little edge on Spain."
