Adebayor farce as he talks in riddles

Emmanuel Adebayor added to the confusion surrounding his future today when he appeared to commit himself to Arsenal, only to change tack just over an hour later and admit he is being chased by a "number" of clubs.

The striker had been the subject of intense speculation after AC Milan vicepresident Adriano Galliani claimed he was the only player that "interests us" and "if he doesn't come nobody will".

An agent acting for Milan, Vincenzo Morabito, revealed on Monday that the move was "80 per cent done" but speaking at a press conference for adidas in Vienna this lunchtime, Adebayor at first insisted he could not leave his Arsenal "brothers".

Arsenal's top scorer with 30 goals last season, who has a deal with Arsene Wenger's team until the summer of 2011, said: "I have a good contract, we have a good team there and I'm playing for one of the biggest teams in the world. The most important thing is to keep enjoying myself. So no matter what, I'm staying at Arsenal.

"You have a chance to play in a team where everyone is between 21 and 26 years old. We all want to achieve something and we have a good boss in Arsene Wenger. In the dressing room, we feel like brothers."

However, there was a soon to be a dramatic twist to the transfer saga as Adebayor later told Sky TV that "I have a lot of clubs that are interested in me" and that his future "would not be sorted out until next week". Adebayor also revealed he is yet to talk to Wenger about leaving Arsenal - but there must now be a strong possibility that he will be off to Milan.

Wherever the former Monaco striker ends up playing next season, he insisted that money is not what is driving him - despite reportedly demanding £120,000 per week to stay at Emirates Stadium. He said: "When I was young I had a dream to be a good footballer and play for a big team.

"I was born in Togo so I never cared about playing for money, my happiness was to play to enjoy myself. That's what I've been doing until now.

"You can see people changing clubs because of money, because they want a change of atmosphere or to get their names in the big leagues. I just play football to enjoy myself. I play because I love it."
