Shock defeat is so painful for Jankovic
30 Jun 2008Jelena Jankovic crashed out of Wimbledon today, losing 6-3, 6-2 to Tamarine Tanasugarn, leaving the women's singles without any of its top three players.
The Serb, ranked No2, who suffered the same fate as Ana Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova, went into the match with her knee heavily strapped, having injured it in the third-round win over Caroline Wozniacki.
She was troubled by it again today but her opponent, the Thai veteran was also suffering with a back injury and both players needed treatment on court from their respective trainers.
Jankovic was broken in the sixth game of the first set and she then toiled in the second, before eventually bowing out. The Serb had admitted before the match that grass was not her favourite surface.
