Jelena Jankovic
Sore loser: Jelena Jankovic insists it was the choice of court, rather than her own performance on it, that led to her defeat

Jankovic attacks Wimbledon chiefs

Jelena Jankovic blasted the All England Club for making her play "near the parking lot" and joked that she almost needed a helicopter to get to the court as she crashed out of Wimbledon this afternoon.

The No2 seed, who was beaten 6-3, 6-2 by 31-yearold Tamarine Tanasugarn in their fourth round clash, launched an unprecedented attack on the tournament officials who insisted she played the opening match on Court 18.

Jankovic had been receiving round the clock treatment for a knee injury picked up in the last round and had hoped for a later slot - and also to avoid the long walk from the locker room through the crowds to the remote Court 18.

She criticised the scheduling of both her match and defending champion Venus Williams's appearance on Court Two, known as the ' Graveyard of Champions'.

"I don't know what they are doing," said the Serbian. "To put Venus on No2 and I'm on No18, especially having an injury and asking for a favour to play a little bit later during the day. They didn't do it, so it was hard.

"I was almost playing in the parking lot. I almost need a helicopter to go to my court. I think No1 and No2 seeds should always be on these top show courts. But what can I do? I think it's wrong and hopefully it will not happen in the future."

"They told me Court 18 is, you know, a TV court. And I said, 'but so are Centre Court and Court No1. This is not a reason to put me on Court 18.

"I don't want to look at other girls or men, why they're on Centre Court - it doesn't matter where they play. But it's also not normal that Venus plays on No2, then Chakvetadze and Vaidisova, who are 18th seed and I don't know which seed, are on Court No1."

When asked if she will take it up with the AEC again, Jankovic replied: "No, I don't really want to fight over that. It's finished. I'm out of the tournament. Really no sense to go out there and lose my energy."

Venus, the seventh seed, beat Alisa Kleybanova 6-3, 6-4 in the match before sister Serena's 6-3, 6-3 victory over fellow American Bethanie Mattek but was reluctant to get drawn into arguments over scheduling.

She said: "You know, there's not too much that I'm going to say about that in press.

"I have played a lot of matches out there and last year as well. The court does play differently than the other courts.

"It was just really a case of taking that into account. I am actually really tall, so I feel a little cramped. I start thinking; 'Will I have room to move around?'"

However, Serena thought her sister deserved a better stage. "I think it's weird that the women's defending champion, who has won it four times, plays on Court Two," said the 26-year-old.
