Neill to link up with Kewell

West Ham captain Lucas Neill looks likely to follow Australia team-mate Harry Kewell by moving to Galatasaray.

The defender has two seasons yet to run on his £60,000-per-week contract and has been talking to West Ham about a new deal but could now decide to join up with former Liverpool midfielder Kewell, who is close to finalising his move to the Turkish side.

West Ham are committed to trimming their squad and cutting their sizable wage bill and Neill's departure would certainly fit in with those plans. Manager Alan Curbishley already has his eye on a replacement for the 30-year-old former Millwall and Blackburn defender and could move quickly this week to sign Lazio's Valon Behrami.

The Swiss international can play at right-back or on the right side of midfield and is attracting plenty of interest from other clubs in Europe.

West Ham's new technical director, Gianluca Nani, previously at Italian club Brescia, has been working hard to bring 23-year-old Behrami to Upton Park though and the move could go through this week.

Newcastle meanwhile, have joined Tottenham and Aston Villa, in the race to land West Ham centre-back Anton Ferdinand.

West Ham want £10million for the former England Under-21 star and it looks likely he will move before the start of the season.
