Brian Smith is promising to unleash England's try-scoring potential following his elevation to attack coach under new team manager Martin Johnson.

England, hammered in two summer Tests by the All Blacks, have been criticised for failing to make the most of talented backs.

Smith, the former London Irish director of rugby, wants to see a change during England's four Tests at Twickenham in November.

Smith told today's rfu.com podcast: "I want us to threaten the defensive line from every position. Players want to play an exciting and expansive brand of rugby and they want to win. I believe we can do both those things.

"They won't happen overnight but they certainly will happen. By the end of the November there'll be an England style of game in place that players will have to fit in to."
