Injured: Joe Calzaghe has been forced to pull out of his September fight with Roy Jones Jnr after hurting his right hand

Calzaghe is forced to pull out of Jones fight

Joe Calzaghe's showdown with Roy Jones Jnr has been delayed after the Welshman injured his right hand in training.

Calzaghe had been due to face the American at New York's Madison Square Garden on 20 September but that date will now be pushed back by a minimum of two months.

The 36-year-old will at least be relieved the injury is not to his left hand, which he has broken three times in his unbeaten 45-fight career.

Promoters will be keen to ensure the rescheduled light-heavyweight fight does not clash with Ricky Hatton's comeback bout against Paulie Malignaggi, which is likely to be in Las Vegas on 22 November.

Following his last victory, against Bernard Hopkins in April, Calzaghe had claimed the Jones Jnr contest would be his last.

However, he recently hinted he may defend his super-middleweight crown against American Kelly Pavlik early next year.
