Why Bergkamp gets Gary's vote ...

Gary Lewin rates Dennis Bergkamp as the most influential player during his time at Arsenal.

Although the Dutch striker scored 106 goals in 393 appearances, it wasn't just his strike-rate which impressed the physio.

"Dennis was the most influential because of his professionalism," said the East-Ham born Lewin.

"But Tony Adams was the best leader."

In Lewin's 1205 games as physio for Arsenal, the match he remembers most comes from the George Graham era in 1989 when Arsenal, needing to win by two goals, snatched the title from Liverpool at Anfield.

"Mickey Thomas had a knee ligament injury and I told George that he would be okay to start but I couldn't guarantee him for 90 minutes," said Lewin.

"Well, everyone knows what happened. George took the risk and Mickey scored the vital second goal in injury-time. Shows you how much I knew in those days!"

Lewin will be succeeded at Arsenal by his cousin, Colin, his assistant for 13 years.
