At the double: Craig Bellamy celebrates scoring his second goal at Peterborough as Anton Ferdinand looks on

Bellamy at full speed but Curbishley fears burn-out

30.07.08

Craig Bellamy looked fresh last night as he scored both goals in the 2-0 win over Peterborough but West Ham boss Alan Curbishley fears his players could suffer from a punishing pre-season schedule.

The Wales striker, who missed much of last season through injury, broke the deadlock after a neat pass from Scott Parker and added another goal after running on to a through-ball from Lucas Neill.

Bellamy made light of the absence of strike partner Dean Ashton, one of a number of players unavailable to Curbishley last night.

The Hammers returned from a tour of America and Canada four days ago and face another friendly at Southampton this Friday.

Curbishley said: "We were all feeling a bit rough from the America trip. I wanted to rotate my side but I can't as I've got a few out already with little niggles. That means some players are getting flogged, which shouldn't be the way in pre-season."
