Westwood: looking forward with confidence to US PGA

Westwood's rally sparks major hope

Lee Westwood goes to this week's US PGA Championship full of confidence after fighting back to claim a share of second place at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

The Englishman just missed bridie chances on the last two holes - a seven-footer on 17 and a 15-footer from the fringe on 18 - to finish one behind Fiji's Vijay Singh, who closed on 10 under.

However, the 35-year-old was delighted with the way he rallied for a final-round 69 after trailing by five shots with 11 holes to play at Ohio's Firestone Country Club.

"I gave myself a real good go at it," said Westwood, who will be at Oakland Hills for the year's final major, starting Thursday. "I hit some nice shots under pressure over the last few holes. The wedge into 17 was one of the best I've hit for ages."

Meanwhile, Korea's Ji-Yai Shin fired a final-round 66 to claim the Women's British Open at Sunningdale as she finished on 18 under par, three ahead of Ya-Ni Tseng of Taiwan.
