Mark Ramprakash was saluted as "the greatest batsman of his generation" after completing a century of first-class centuries during Surrey's championship draw against Yorkshire at Headingley.

After an uncharacteristically lean run of 10 innings without reaching 50, Ramprakash ended the waiting in style with a chanceless 112 not out - on the same ground where he made his first hundred, for Middlesex, 19 years earlier.

The 38-year-old former England batsman is only the 25th player in the history of the game to score 100 hundreds and, with fewer firstclass matches being played, he is likely to be the last.

"This is one of the most significant achievement in the long and distinguished history of Surrey cricket," said chief executive Paul Sheldon. "We salute the greatest batsman of his generation."
