Kieron Dyer looks certain to be out of action until November after suffering a serious problem in his comeback.

The West Ham midfielder, who broke a leg in a Carling Cup tie against Bristol City almost a year ago, was originally hoping to feature against his former club Ipswich in tonight's friendly at Portman Road.

However, Dyer had to scrap those plans after he felt pain around the site of the original fracture during training last week and a CT scan revealed a hairline crack.

He will now follow a six-week rehabilitation plan and is unlikely to be ready to return for at least three months.

The problems may affect the future of Freddie Ljungberg. The former Arsenal midfielder looked certain to leave as part of the club's squad-trimming moves, but Dyer's prolonged absence could now change things.

Meanwhile, West Ham are to retire the No6 shirt worn by Bobby Moore.

England's World Cup-winning captain made his West Ham debut almost 50 years ago, and two shirts bearing that number will be handed over to Moore's widow Stephanie during next Saturday's friendly against Villarreal at Upton Park.

The shirts will be auctioned, with the proceeds going to the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK. Moore died of bowel cancer aged 51.
