Neil Warnock desperate for more firepower

Evening Standard   18 Aug 2008

Crystal Palace have moved to raise funds for a badly-needed striker by putting midfielders Paul Ifill and Carl Fletcher on the transfer list.

Palace have failed to score in 180 minutes of Championship action and are stuck on a single point following Saturday's 2-0 loss at Preston.

Eagles manager Neil Warnock has been quoted £750,000 for Ipswich's Republic of Ireland international Alan Lee and is also considering raiding former club Sheffield United for Danny Webber.

Another manager under pressure is QPR's Iain Dowie, who saw his side downed 3-0 at Sheffield United by a quick-fire hat-trick from Billy Sharp.

"It was 12 minutes of madness and we gave ourselves a mountain to climb," Dowie moaned. "We let ourselves and the fans down."

A Tommy Smith strike earned Watford a 1-0 Vicarage Road success over Charlton, who had Kelly Youga sent off.

Addicks boss Alan Pardew confirmed China international Zheng Zhi's future was not settled, saying: "He could be sold."
