GB miss chance to beat Hockeyroos

22.08.08

Britain's winless run against Australia in women's hockey continued today as they were defeated 2-0 in the Olympic fifth-place play-off.

The team have not beaten the Hockeyroos since 2000 and have won only four times in 34 meetings, but had chances to win at the Olympic Green Hockey Stadium.

Despite the defeat Britain still registered their best Olympic finish since Atlanta in 1996, when they were fourth.

A goal in each half proved sufficient for the Aussies, with Laura Bartlett and Mel Clewlow failing to convert Britain's best opportunities.
