Dean Ashton gets all-clear for City clash

Ken Dyer, Evening Standard
22 Aug 2008

Dean Ashton is fit to start for West Ham in Sunday's clash at Manchester City.

Ashton came off in the second half of the 2-0 win over Wigan with what appeared to be a calf problem but it was later diagnosed as cramp and the striker, who was left out of Fabio Capello's England squad as a precaution, was back at training on Tuesday.

West Ham boss Alan Curbishley looks certain to keep the same side that started against Wigan.

Anton Ferdinand is still not fit following a hamstring strain, while virus victim George McCartney will not be risked.

With Craig Bellamy still at least a week away from fitness, Curbishley said: "It's probably the same side. I'm looking for a repeat of our first-half performance [against Wigan] but this time over the full 90 minutes."

Defender James Collins, who has been out for five months with a ligament injury, played one half of a practice match earlier this week and came through it with no problems.
