Roman jets in to join Spurs

Evening Standard   29 Aug 2008

Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko arrived at Heathrow this morning to complete his £16million from Spartak Moscow to Spurs.

His new side will take on Poland's Wisla Krakow following today's UEFA Cup draw in Monaco. The arrival of Pavlyuchenko could help push through Dimitar Berbatov's £28m switch to Manchester United. It is a move that can't come soon enough for ex-Spurs goalkeeping coach Hans Segers, who today revealed that Berbatov has caused unrest in the dressing room for over a year.

He said: "What has been going on isn't good. Berbatov is a big sulker."

Meanwhile, Everton were handed arguably the toughest tie for British clubs in today's first-round UEFA Cup draw when they were paired at home with Belgium's Standard Liege.

Selected other ties: Portsmouth v Guimaraes, Manchester City v AC Omonia, Litex Lovech v Aston Villa, Nancy v Motherwell and Hertha Berlin v St Patricks.
