Anne Keothavong is aiming for the world top 50

Evening Standard   1 Sep 2008

Anne Keothavong will continue her bid to break into the World's top 50 by competing in Tokyo following her impressive run at the US Open.

Hackney based Keothavong lost her third round match to Olympic champion Elena Dementieva.

For now, Keothavong will have to be content with cracking the top 70 for the first time thanks to her New York performances and this is a crucial launching pad for the 24-year-old right hander who may have to enter qualifying for the Tokyo event starting on 16 September because there will be so many highly ranked players in the main draw.

Keothavong now know she has the tools to trouble the very best players and with this new found confidence, a continued rise up the rankings looks certain.

She said: "I don't think the gaps are as big as I once thought. I know what I need to work on and the best thing about that, is I can go back home now and just get stuck in.

"I feel like I can climb the rankings and the next stage is to break into the top 50. That's the goal for me. I have been doing a lot of work off the court and I am in good shape. I'm ready to be amongst the better players."
