Pumped up: Novak Djokovic used his victory speech to lambast Andy Roddick

Novak blasts Roddick over 'fake injuries'

05.09.08

Novak Djokovic launched a blistering attack on Andy Roddick and the Flushing Meadows tennis crowd after he defeated the American 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 to reach the US Open semi-finals last night.

Stung by claims by Roddick that he was faking "16 injuries" going into the match, Djokovic used his victory speech to lambast the former champion, and as the boos rained down from the 20,000 New Yorkers, the Serb said: "The fans are against me because they think I am faking everything. It's not nice for Andy to say that."

Djokovic apologised later, saying: "He made a joke and it was a misunderstanding."
