Shearer not sacked, say Newcastle

Evening Standard   15 Sep 2008

Newcastle insist Alan Shearer has not been sacked as a club ambassador but have confirmed their former striker's contract for the role ended last season.

There have been reports that Shearer has been told he is no longer allowed to use the title 'club ambassador' following his criticism of Kevin Keegan's departure from Newcastle.

But the club said today: "Alan Shearer's contract ran out at the end of last season. Any suggestion Alan was stripped of this role because of recent events is completely inaccurate."

The statement comes after owner Mike Ashley announced he was putting the club up for sale following protests against him and executive director (football) Dennis Wise.

I think this whole saga must be the script for a new John Cleese management training video.."How NOT to run a football Club"...it surely can't be anything else...Is there any other Tyneside fan's folk hero (eg Keegan and Shearer) that the present owners wish to get rid of !! C'mon Boro !
