Ramos feels the pressure but denies he is homesick

Juande Ramos was forced to deny rumours he wants to quit Tottenham after his side stuttered to a 0-0 home draw with Wigan to remain bottom of the Premier League.

The White Hart Lane boss was reported over the weekend to be suffering from homesickness and to be angling for a return to his native Spain.

But despite overseeing Spurs worst start to a League season since the 1955-56 campaign, when they drew one and lost four of their opening five fixtures, Ramos insisted he was happy in north London.

He said: "It is not true [that I am homesick]. I am delighted to be in London, and delighted to be at Tottenham. I am having a marvellous experience.

"The problem is that some players arrived at the last moment and have not trained much with the team, so they need a little more time.

"We have had big changes here, so we need time. It is true that big clubs like Tottenham do not get a lot of time, but all we can do is work hard each day to improve."

Spurs now have only two points from their opening five games and travel to another club in difficulty, Newcastle, for their Carling Cup third-round tie on Wednesday.

Tottenham left-back Gareth Bale admitted: "We want the first win so much that we kind of panic a little bit, but we need to try to stick together.

"It was a difficult game; Wigan played well. We have to work on our weaker points and hope we get stronger.

"There are a lot of new players at the club, so it takes time to gel, but we need to gel as quickly as we can now. The manager is trying to find out all the weak points where we need to improve.

"We are looking at DVDs and analysis. Every team wants to get that first win, but it is not happening for us at the moment."
