Plans unveiled for Champions League

The inaugural Champions League Twenty20 tournament will be staged in Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai, Indian organisers announced today.

The event will comprise the top two teams from domestic Twenty20 competitions in India, South Africa and Australia.

English Twenty20 Cup champions Middlesex and the winners from Pakistan's domestic tournament are also in the line-up from 3-10 December.

The teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the top two from each advancing to the semi-finals.

Sri Lanka sports minister Gamini Lokuge, meanwhile, has asked for the country's top players to be allowed to play in the Indian Premier League next April and May instead of touring England.
