Scottish Football Association officials are eager to step into the breach if Poland and Ukraine are stripped of the 2012 European Championship finals.

The Polish government suspended their country's football federation on Monday for allegedly failing to address corruption and appointed an administrator to run the organisation.

But UEFA and FIFA have warned they will not tolerate political interference in national associations and could move the 2012 finals elsewhere.

The SFA are monitoring the situation closely and chief executive Gordon Smith said today: "If, in the event of the finals being taken away from Poland and Ukraine, it was opened to bids, then we would seek to establish if a bid from us would be considered by UEFA.

"If the response was positive then we would undertake a feasibility study along with the government to decide if we would bid."

William Gaillard, UEFA communications director, said: "If there is no legitimate Polish FA, then we will not have a Euro in Poland."
