Rookie Smith needs to show his Bulldog spirit

The Castrol Evening Standard Ford Fiesta rally car gets its second outing tomorrow with novice co-driver David Smith facing a test of nerve in mid-Wales.

The Evening Standard sports writer, preparing for a world championship debut on the Wales GB Rally in December, will partner Sky Sports presenter Tony Jardine on the Bulldog Rally, which uses some of the most gruelling special stages in Britain.

Jardine said: "They contain every variety of challenge from jumps to huge drops and flat-out straights. Some of these stages are fast but rough and the car could take a beating."
