Tottenham centre-half Michael Dawson today risked having his three-match ban for his red card at Stoke extended to five when he denied a Football Association charge of improper conduct.

Dawson, 24, was automatically suspended for three games after being sent off during the 2-1 defeat on Sunday for a dangerous tackle on Mamady Sidibe.

He was then charged over his reaction to the dismissal but has requested a personal hearing, which will take place before a regulatory commission on 30 October.

If found guilty Dawson could have up to two games added to his suspension.

His injury-time dismissal at the Britannia Stadium capped a frustrating afternoon for under-pressure Juande Ramos' side, who also had Gareth Bale sent off early in the match.

In a fiery encounter Stoke's Thomas Sorensen was left with a nasty gash to his forehead after a clash with Alan Hutton and the goalkeeper claimed today that the challenge could have left him blinded.

Scotland defender Hutton, who travelled to Italy today with the rest of the Spurs squad ahead of tomorrow's UEFA Cup group match against Udinese, was booked for the challenge but Sorensen is fuming at what he feels was a preventable collision.

"It was a millimetre off me losing my sight," he said. "I have been sewn up in the eye socket but it is miraculous there's no more damage.

"He could have avoided hitting me. He had no chance to reach the ball but he still threw himself into it, leading with his studs. The doctor has done a very good job so my face is not totally destroyed."
