Juande Ramos
Lacked attacking options: Juande Ramos says that when Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov left Tottenham it had a huge effect on the team

Ramos has a striking admission

29 Oct 2008

Juande Ramos last night broke his silence on his sacking from Tottenham by insisting the sales of strikers Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane were to blame for the club's worst start to a season in their history.

Ramos wanted to keep hold of the £50million strike force, who were sold in the summer, and said adequate replacements were not identified by former sporting direct Damien Comolli, who was also sacked in the Spurs shake up last Saturday.

Ramos said: "We had a difficult pre-season due to the changes in the team, which meant that we couldn't work as calmly as a pre-season requires.

"Some of the new players were very young, and despite their quality they needed time to adapt and mature, which unfortunately the intensity of the competition hasn't allowed them to do yet.

"When Robbie Keane and Berbatov left the club, it had a huge effect on the team as they were key players with regard to tactics, goal scoring abilities and also as team-mates they had an important influence."

I think youir secretly a Spurs fan Rob. You talk more about us than the Arse-anal.
Admit it... pledge your allegiance to the White side. There's so much more to Spurs than the dreary "win nothing" Arse-anal.

Ramos should not have been sacked, just like Allardyce at Toon. look at Newcastle now!! This was a typical knee jerk reaction by Levy to the press. So they have Harry Redknapp, claim to fame? he won the FA Cup wow!!! Ramos turned Sevilla in to a European Power team, but it took time, and he would have done the same with Spurs - your loss Tottenham

Ramos had no chance. The sale of Berbatov & Keane, so soon after selling Defoe made his job impossible. He was expected to break into the top four with a much weakened squad. I admire Ramos for his decency for which I have a lot of respect. Unfortunately, for Tottenham fans, they have been let down very badly by the Spurs board.

When Ramos talks about the intensity of the competition he's talking about its brutality. Some of Spurs young stars may have fallen down on the job under Ramos .. but many more were hacked down.
