Pardew to play mind games with ailing stars

Alan Pardew is ready to use a sports psychologist in a bid to turn Charlton's season around.

The manager was jeered by the fans as his side crashed 3-1 at home to Barnsley.

All three Barnsley goals came following set-pieces - the exact area the players had been ordered to spend time practising on the morning of the match.

"A sports psychologist is something we might start thinking about," Pardew admitted. "There are players here below par and I wonder about their performances. I have to look at the character."

QUEENS PARK RANGERS lost 2-0 to Ipswich but caretaker boss Gareth Ainsworth insists his team will bounce back.

"I hate tasting defeat. However, we'll put this to the back of our minds," he said.

CRYSTAL PALACE contract rebel Ben Watson scored from the penalty spot as Crystal Palace drew 1-1 with Sheffield Wednesday. Boss Neil Warnock said: "He's been offered the best contract I've seen during my time at the club. Ask his agent why he hasn't signed."

WATFORD manager Aidy Boothroyd refused to panic even though Blackpool snatched a late 4-3 win at Vicarage Road.

"A couple of wins and everything looks different," he said. "There are thin lines between promotion and relegation battles."

LEYTON ORIENT striker Adam came off the bench to score the only goal against Hartlepool and end his team's run of 10 games without a victory. "We're still in a bad position, but this is a start," said captain Stephen Purches.

MILLWALL manager Kenny Jackett thought the 4-1 hammering at Brighton was tough on his team. "We actually played some good football," he said.

BRENTFORD lost 2-1 at home by Rochdale in League Two leaving Andy Scott's side with just one point from their last three games.

The boss said: "We were riding the crest of a wave and we've now had a dip in form, but we know we're capable of getting back."

DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE were held to a 0-0 draw by Accrington Stanley with Mark Nwokeji heading a great chance wide late on.

Barnet midfielder Albert Adomah scored a deserved 76th-minute equaliser to earn his side a 3-3 draw at Bradford.
