Demanding: Scolari has told Chelsea's stars they still need to prove themselves

Scolari demands more from ‘unproven’ Blues

Luiz Felipe Scolari has told his Chelsea players they still have a lot to prove before they can say they are a better team than the one that failed to win a trophy under previous manager Avram Grant.

Chelsea have scored an impressive 36 goals in 15 games this season to go top of the Premier League as well as their Champions League qualifying group.

It is a far cry from the dour style seen during Grant's reign, although he still came close to winning three trophies last season after Chelsea finished runners-up in the title race, the
Champions League and the Carling Cup.

But Scolari said: “We need to arrive in more finals and win more finals to say we are better, but not now.

“We have played very well this season so far but we have not arrived yet in any position.

“We are one of the best 10 teams in the world, we are not the best. We are very good but there are other teams that play very well.”

Chelsea take on Roma in the Stadio Olimpico tonight knowing a win will put them in the last 16 of the Champions League with two games to spare.

Scolari is so confident of progressing he has already told club officials to book out Rome's Cavalieri Hilton in time for the final next May.

Chelsea were given 3600 tickets for tonight's game, but it is understood that only 1500 have been sold. Roma's fans have clashed with Manchester United and Middlesbrough supporters in recent years and it may have had an affect on Chelsea's following.

Scolari is hoping the match will still take place without any incidents off the field and said: “It is only a game not a war. I don't think there is any problems because people in Rome are civilised.

“I think when they came over to London recently they were received very well.

“It is a game of football. It is a normal situation.”
